Shell Exploration & Production Company has donated a total of $400,000 to LSU's School of the Coast and Environment (SC&E) to help establish the Shell Coastal Environmental Modeling Laboratory (CEML). Shell donated an initial $50,000 in June 2002, another $50,000 in June 2003, followed by $300,000 in November 2004.

Shell CEML will help SC&E researchers and their collaborators implement an integrated, holistic, multidisciplinary approach to computer modeling of diverse coastal and gulf ecosystems.

The challenge of rehabilitating one of the largest river delta ecosystems in the world is formidable and will require huge investments. The support of the Shell Oil Company Foundation for CEML is the kind of investment required to meet the challenge.

Shell's Kelly op de Weegh presented LSU SC&E Dean Russ Chapman with a check at the Oceanography International 2003 Exhibition and Conference in New Orleans, June 2003.

Robert Twilley, CEML director, Lynn Laverty Elsenhans, president of Shell Oil company, William Jenkins, LSU president, and Russ Chapman, SC&E dean. Shell presented a $300,000 check to LSU SC&E on November 12, 2004, at LSU's Energy, Coast and Environment Building.
